NAI Statement on Google’s Updated Timeline for Privacy Sandbox Milestones

WASHINGTON, DC June 24, 2021) – The Network Advertising Initiative released the following statement by NAI President & CEO Leigh Freund regarding Google’s announcement that it is updating the timeline for its plan to phase out support for third-party cookies in Chrome:

“We appreciate Google’s thoughtful approach to ensuring a diverse, competitive, and privacy preserving internet experience for consumers and businesses alike. Today’s announcement that Google will delay implementation of its plan to remove support for third party cookies until late 2023 reflects the immense effort that the entire industry is undertaking, collaboratively, to give consumers strong privacy protections while preserving the benefits of an ad supported internet. We remain committed to working with Google and the rest of the digital marketing industry on a responsible, thoughtful, and privacy protective approach to digital advertising. This is not a time to sit back and rely on old technologies, but an opportunity to take the time necessary to build an ecosystem that truly gives consumers the privacy and benefits they deserve.”
